About
Modern Ezgi
Modern Ezgi is a studio project with the goal of producing contemporary music shaped by Anatolian melody, Mediterranean color, and modern harmonic language.
Blending motifs from the Asia Minor and Balkans with Western harmony, subtle jazz influences, and accessible song-based arrangements, the project synthesizes a sound that feels rooted, warm, and contemporary, and sometimes, slightly quirky.
Across Akşamın Rengi, Modern Ezgi’s lyrics move through evening light, city memory, musical metaphor, and everyday Turkish life. The writing is often observational and sensory, but rarely literal: Istanbul is heard as much as seen, a makam becomes a road inward, and even a comic title like “Baklava Bürokrasisi” points toward the strange rituals and small negotiations of daily life.
Rather than separating poetry, humor, and songcraft, Modern Ezgi lets them share the same space. The lyrics can be reflective, playful, intimate, or lightly satirical, but they usually return to the same center: music as a way of noticing where we are, where we come from, and how ordinary moments carry emotional weight.
